  • What is the TheGlobalOpen.com ?

    A website which allows Golfers to compete in a monthly handicap competition against the rest of the world. A golfer enters our competition using their score achieved when playing at a competition played at their local golf club. Golfers are split up into smaller groups based on handicaps to increase their chance of winning. The winners & runners up win prizes, plus we also each month present the overall winner's Golf course with a large cheque to donate to their club captains charity of choice.

  • Who are TheGlobalOpen.com and why should I trust you?

    TheGlobalOpen.com Ltd is a UK based golfing company . We launched on Feburary 2010 and on current predictions are that over the next 5 years we expect to give away over £80,000 pounds to over 720 winners and donate over £10,000 pounds to Golf club's chosen charities of choice.   • Where are you based?

    Our head office in Kent, UK (2 Court lodge Road, Appledore, Ashford, Kent, TN26 2DD) and we can be contacted by emailing info@theglobalopen.com .In total (head office, local area representatives, etc) we currently employ approximately 50 staff.
  • How many competitions do you run each month ?

    Normally we run 2 competitions a month. One Monthly Stableford and one Monthly Medal competition. You will automatically be entered into the correct competition depending on the type of round you are playing at your course and the date you play on. For example say you play in your course's weekly medal competition on the 23rd Feburary 2009 then you would automatically entered into TheGlobalOpen Monthly Medal for Feburary 2009

  • How do I enter?

    First on this website there is a quick and easy registration. Add some credit to your account then enter the courses name and the date of the club competition you will be playing in. You will then be entered into the appropiate monthly competition on this website.

    After you have played simply return to our site and enter your result, then sit back and watch the leaderboard as other golfers enter from around the world!

    At the end of the competition the winnners are the ones with the best nett score / points in their handicap division.

  • How much is it to enter?

    Currently, it costs just 2.50 GBP (or equivalient in your local currency) to enter a monthly competition. Our aim is to make the price about the same you would pay at your club to enter it's medal/stableford competitions.. But of course our prizes are MUCH larger.

    When you first join TheGlobalOpen.com we will give you a free credit so you can give it a go and see how it works. Even though this credit is free you can still win just as normal!
  • Where can I buy credits to enter your competition ?

    Currently just from our website, though we hope to offer other methods soon.
  • Are there any special offers for buying more than one credit ?

    Yes. We have a number of offers which you will see when you go to purchase credits. For example buying 10 credits at once will give you a saving of 20% per credit

  • Will I get a receipt of my purchase?

    Yes. You will immediately be emailed with confirmation of your purchase. Details of the competition(s) you have entered can also be seen in your personal Account (you will need to be logged in).

  • What are my chances of winning a prize ?

    Well they say golf is a game of skill and the more you practice the luckier you seem to get, so ultimately this one is up to you, but at least we can give you the odds...


    We split the Golfers who enter in a month into Handicap divisions. The maximum amount of Golfers in a division is 800 (though often it is much less). So with 5 prizes up for grabs in each divison at worst your odds are 1 in 160. But as we all know most Golfer have a bad score day on the course so all you really need to win is just to sink a few nice putts and keep the driver out of mischief !

  • What can I win ?

    If you finnish in the top 5 of your handicap division, you will get the choice to take the Golfing prize offered (for example a new set of PING G15 Irons! or a Taylor Made Driver) or choose a voucher for an experience day. The voucher will be from a company that offers gift experiences and activity days in your area. You can then choose from a selection of gift experiences, to ensure you receive the perfect prize suited to you or your partner. An example of experience days to choose from are ..


    1st Place: Four Star Overnight Golf Break for Two, Aston Martin Driving Experience, Sunrise Hot Air Ballooning For Two, etc
    2nd Place: 60 Minute Microlighting, Helicopter Tour of nearest city, JCB Racing, Cocktail Masterclass for Two, Urban Spa Ritual, Sailing Day, etc
    3rd Place: Driving a Ferrari, Aerobatic Flying, a Dinner and Theatre Evening for Two, an Intermediate Golf Masterclass with a PGA Pro, etc
    [Of course due to your location we may not be able to offer certain prizes. For example if you live in the desert that most probably rules out the "Scuba Diving with Sharks" option]

  • Who chooses the prize that I win ?

    The Golfing prizes like the new set of Ping G15 irons are selected by ourselves and mentioned on the prizes page. For the experience days we award you with a voucher to use with a company that offers gift experiences and activity days in your area. You can then choose from a selection of gift experiences, to ensure you receive the perfect prize suited to you or your partner. For a first prize I would most probably choose the "Subaru Impreza Rally Driving experience" whereas my partner would most probably convince me to pick the "Overnight Wine Tasting Break in the Country with Dinner for Two"

  • When do the competitions finish ?

    You can see from our leaderboard when our competitions finish but they are normally monthly. Our aim is to run each month a medal and stableford competition. On entry you will be entered into the relevant monthly competition depending on the date you play at your course. So if you are to play in a medal at your course on the 15th August then you will be entered into the TheGlobalOpen's August Monthly Medal. So a competition finishes on midnight of the last day of the month. For you convenience even though the competition is finished we still give you till midnight on the 3rd day of the next month to enter your result for that competition. After that the competition is officially closed and no more results can be entered. This is the point where our system is working out the winners and our team is frantically validating the results with the directors cracking the whips behind them.

  • When are the results announced ?

    Results are usually announced approximately 10-14 days after the competition has finished. Although we try to get the results out as soon as possible, the formal judging process takes time, and contacting winners and confirming identification can sometimes be diffficult.

    Competition results will be posted on our website, and if you have given us a valid email address, you will receive notification via email as well.  You should also log in to your Accoount to check the results, to see how close you were and to see if you have earned any rewards (Game Credit).

  • How will I know if I win ?

    When you enter a competition you will have submitted your address, at least one telephone number and an email address. One of our staff, will personally call/contact you if you are one of the lucky winners of your division.

    If you do not win we will email you the results . We will also display the results and details of the winner on this website.  Finally, you can log in to your Accoount to check the results, to see how close you were and to see if you have earned any rewards (Game Credit).

  • What about my Amateur Status, will I lose it if I win ?

    No you will NOT lose your amatuer status even if you win a first prize at TheGlobalOpen.com .The value of the top prize of any divison will always be under (but very close to) the maximum prize allowed for you to retain your amatuer status. As a standard guideline we comply to the rules from the R&A (this covers 120 countries and 30 million golfers) regarding amateur status, but we will also check your local countries rules before awarding prizes and adjust (if you want) your prize accordingly to ensure you retain your status.


    FYI here is an extract from the rules from the R&A....

    A golfer wishing to retain Amateur Status may not:
    * Play golf for prize money.
    * Accept a prize or prizes of retail value in excess of £500 or the local equivalent (or such a lesser figure as decided by the Governing Body).
    * Accept a prize of an expenses paid trip to take part in a golf competition.

  • What are handicap divisions and how are they calculated ?

    To give everyone the best chance of winning we split the Golfers into equal groups based on handicaps. The are called Handicap Division. The handicap divisions for a monthly competition at TheGlobalOpen are determined by dividing the total number of players into equal amounts of no more than 800 hundred golfers. The handicap range for each divison varies accordingly to the handicaps of Golfers entered but an example could be..


    1000 Golfers entered into TheGlobalOpen Medal June'09.
    * 3 Handicap divisions created (so no more than 800 golfers per divison)
    * Division 1: 333 Golfers with handicap range 0 - 11
    * Division 2: 333 Golfers with handicap range 12 - 19
    * Division 3: 334 Golfers with handicap range 20 - 36
     Each Divison has prizes for the TOP 5 Golfers!


    Please note that even though you play against Golfers in your group for prizes , for pure competitive interest we will still show your overall position so you can see how did against all of those golfers that entered in that month's competition.

  • How do you validate the scores entered by Golfers ?

    Our team uses a variety of methods combined to ensure we validate scores correctly. Please note because of the time this takes and the speed we want to get the results to you, we only validate score of prize winning Golfers.

    Our combination approach involves cross-checking with the secretary of the relevant Golf club, checking any electronic score and handicap systems that are attached to clubs (this currently gives us access to over 2000 clubs each month), checking the clubs website and if necessray sending a TGO local area representative to visit the club.

    What we guarantee is that if you are in a winning position your score wil be correctly validated and we will make sure our hard working team does this before the 14 days are up so we can award the prizes.

  • How are Tied Sores/Points resolved ?

    Ties are handled by card countback. We use best score/points on the following in order until the tie is resolved.

    1000 Golfers entered into TheGlobalOpen Medal June'09.
    1/. Best Score/Points on the last 9 holes (1/2 handicaps are used)
    2/. Best Score/Points on the last 6 holes (1/3 handicaps are used)
    3/. Best Score/Points on the last 3 holes (1/6 handicaps are used)
    4/. Best Score/Points on the last hole (1/18 handicaps are used)

  • Can I enter from any country ?

    Yes definately!. It does not matter what country you are in the only pre-condition you have to meet is that you will be playing in an official medal / stableford competition run by a golf club. For example their weekly medal, monthly stableford, yearly championship,etc.

    The only issue would could have is that we are unable to find a provider of adventure/luxury days ,in your country, that will provide us with a voucher for you. In this instance you will have to take the Golfing prize instead
  • This sounds so good are you sure it is completely legal ?

    Yes! Yes! and Yes!. To ensure this we had a legal team work put their sharp eyes over it all to ensure we match legal gaming rules, etc.


    Though to be honest before they even checked we knew we would be alright as all we are really doing here is replicate exactly the same competition model that is run at your local club. The key difference from that are that more Golfers enter our competition (from all over the world) plus and this is the really good one.. the prizes are much bigger!!.
